In this spot, much thinking can be done. Two types of thought can be found in this thoughtful spot, pure entertainment, in the form of Pooh's Memory Game and philosophical, in the form of quotations that show the Tao philosophy of the Bear. Some of the sayings on this page were actually stated by Winnie the Pooh in the books, others are saying that reflect this general attitude toward life -- words that the Bear might have said. Wisdom of the Bear can be found in the Quote of the Month, a different bit of Pooh philosophy for each month of the year.
PoohismsSome Useful Information and Sustaining Thoughts"And if anyone knows anything about anything," said Bear to himself, "it's Owl who knows something about something," he said, "or my name's not Winnie-the-Pooh," he said. "Which it is," he added. "So there you are." "Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't. You never can tell with paw-marks." "I have been Foolish and Deluded," said he, "and I am a Bear of No Brain at All." "It is the best way to write poetry, letting things come."
"Rabbit's clever," said Pooh thoughtfully.
Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind, "Pooh!," he whispered. [Eeyore] said; "but after all, what are birthdays? Here to-day and gone to-morrow." "It just shows what can be done by taking a little trouble," said Eeyore. "Do you see, Pooh ? Do you see, Piglet? Brains first and then Hard Work. Look at it! That's the way to build a house," said Eeyore proudly. When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Thinks, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.
"When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?" [Pooh said,] "....You never can tell with bees." "It is hard to be brave," said Piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." [Piglet] said, "I wish Pooh were here. It's so much more friendly with two." "There's Pooh," [Piglet] thought to himself. "Pooh hasn't much Brain, but he never comes to any harm. He does silly things and they turn out right. There's Owl. Owl hasn't exactly got Brain, but he Knows Things. He would know the Right Thing to Do when Surrounded by Water. There's Rabbit. He hasn't Learnt in Books but he can always Think of a Clever Plan. There's Kanga. She isn't Clever, Kanga isn't, but she would be so anxious about Roo that she would do a Good Thing to Do without thinking about it. And then there's Eeyore. And Eeyore is so miserable anyhow that he wouldn't mind about this. But I wonder what Christopher Robin would do?"
Pooh's Memory Game is available in two versions, a large 6 x 6 version and a smaller 6 x 4 version. The smaller version is slightly easier, having only 24 pieces, and is intended for smaller monitors or those monitors with lower resolution.
I've made a Pooh Personality Quiz modelled after the Pooh-Piglet Psychometric Profiler. You can see which of the Hundred Acre Wood denizens you are most like. In continuing the quest to discover more about myself and my Pooh personality, I have divided the various characters into the personality type they are most like in preparation for creation a Myers-Briggs-like personality quiz. |
